Greetings!
Here we are, another year, another Holy Season of Lent.
For those who have been on this journey with me for the past 5 years, I’m
so glad to be with you again! For new friends and followers, welcome!
As in years past, you can follow me directly on the blog here:
http://scottdwilsonlentblogspot.com/,
or for you social media types, I will also post links to the blog daily on
Twitter (@scottdwil) and on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/scott.wilson.56808995).
I struggled with stepping into this daily effort for a 6th
year. The process of working through what to say and how to say it,
combined with all of the other demands of life can sometimes make this feel like
a chore. I never want this to be a labor unless it is a labor of love. But, Lent is about sacrifice, and giving up a
bit of my time every day in order to receive a daily reminder of the blessings
in store at the end of this season is well worth it. Plus, the truth is, the words flow
effortlessly and the blessings abound when I get my mind and my ego out of the
way, allowing the Holy Spirit to do his/her thing. Isn’t this true with
everything in our life?!? :-)
There is something that music does for many of us, which
nothing else can do. We are elevated, escalated and emancipated. We are refreshed, renewed and sometimes even
redeemed. Music has been such an
important part of my life. From my earliest memories of singing along on
country roads with John Denver, hearing The Beatles muse about a blackbird or
being awed by Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, I have known that music is a holy
thing, given to us by God so that we might know Him more.
I have talked about music in some of my earlier writings,
mainly under the context of a verse or chorus that tied into the scripture I
was waxing on that day. This year will be all about the music. For
each of the next 47 days, I’ll share bits, pieces or sometimes a whole song
that speaks to me in some way. Yes,
there will be lots of music from that category known as “Christian
Contemporary”, but I think you will be surprised at a few of my choices too.
I’m going to try really hard during this process to not
violate any copyright, trademark, registration or any other of those little superscript
marks which follow material someone is trying to protect in order to earn a
living. I totally respect these marks, make no money as a part of these
writings and do not intend to usurp anyone’s ability to capture any fame,
fortune or other due recognition. Any inadvertent instance where I might
run afoul of these is innocent and unintentional. To the contrary, I want
to recognize, thank and honor the composers, performers, arrangers and
producers of this music and their role in allowing the Holy Spirit to flow
through them to each of us.
There…enough of the legal stuff.
So, I encourage you to join me in this journey, for the
first time or for the sixth. I hope you will be blessed.
My heartfelt thanks to each of you who encouraged me to step
out in faith, once again.
Scott
